The global concern of breast cancer continues to increase largely because of the aging and the growth of world population. Women treated for breast cancer or who have had mastectomies, lumpectomies, radiation treatment, lymph node removal, surgeries, infections, or trauma to the limbs often face a lifetime risk of developing lymphedema – a chronic condition that negatively affects the breast cancer survivors’ quality of life. One of the most unfortunate and dreaded outcomes of breast cancer treatment is Lymphedema.
Step 1: Pre-Scanning Consultation
You will meet with one of our Certified Mastectomy Fitters where she will help you determine if a custom breast prosthesis is the right choice for you. During this consultation, she will review expectations, the simple, fast and easy scanning process and discuss payment options. Some insurance plans cover most if not all of the cost of a custom breast prosthesis, and in such cases our insurance department will take care of completing and filing all of the complex paperwork. If you and your fitter decide a custom breast prosthesis is the right choice for you, she will then fit you in a new bra suitable for scanning.
Step 2: Personal Scan Session
Whether you require a full custom breast prosthesis or a partial custom beast prosthesis, your personal scan session will be surprisingly quick and easy! Your fitter will begin the session by fitting you in the bra in which you were fit during your pre-scanning consultation. She will also review nipple, areola and color options with you. Next, your fitter will explain the scan process and provide to you simple instructions. She will take a series of pictures followed by a few scans using a state-of-the-art, 3D scanner. And that’s it! After your personal scan session, we transmit your unique scan and picture files to the Custom Design Team at American Breast Care team in Marietta, GA where their proprietary CAD-based engineering process is used to create your prosthesis, customized to meet your unique specifications.
Step 3: Personal Fitting
Your fitter will contact you to set up a personal fitting appointment when she receives your finished custom breast prosthesis. Please allow at least 45-60 minutes for your personal fitting to ensure your fitter has ample time to fit the prosthesis and review the care instructions and warranty information. Your new custom breast prosthesis will deliver in a beautiful pink suede case for storage and travel.
